I do machine embroidery and I see designs using mylar. Can someone please tell me what mylar is and how it is used in machine embroidery?

I thought mylar was plastic  beats me
|
Mylar is plastic as far as I know. I used it for template material when doing applique cause it won't melt if you use an iron to turn yout edges under on the shapes.

Mylar is a plastic product registered by dupont.

I wonder if somehow they are doing machine embroidery on the mylar........is that possible?

The Mylar I have used for embroidery is like the plastic wrap use use for Easter baskets. It doesn't wash or iron well. It is to add sparkle to a design. You place it on top of your fabric and embroidry.

Thank you so much.

There are places you can buy mylar for emb. I've never done it so can't comment on the difference or how well it works.

http://purelygates.com/PurelyGates/Home.html I saw them at the Houston Quilt show the year I got to go. I do machine embroidery and tried this. It turned out great. I just bought the mylar from Wal-Mart. Stuff used for wrapping baskets. It was very cheap. |
I can't find it in WM. Where is it located? Of course, we have a small store so may not have it at all. thanks Shirley
