Ok ladies, I went shoping last night for a new rotary cutter. My darling husband was playing with my old Fiscars one, and it fell apart. I sprang for the Fons & Porter rotary cutter, 40% off (without a coupon, sale price) at Joanne's. I thought it was nice, but it will take some getting used to! Now I wish I could of asked what everyone here preferred. (It is a nice rotary cutter, just different.) Long story short, what are the quilting products you just can't live without? Are some brands better than others?
I, for one, can't live without my Side Winder, a bobbin winder machine. it is much easier to use than my sewing machines winder, so I can fill 5 or 6 bobbins so when I run out mid project I "don't break my stride" and can just toss in a new bobbin. I admit it is a silly invention, the winder, but heck- I am easily amused! |
I LOVE the double headed pins made by Clover. They are super sharp and very fine. I use them at the seams when piecing. It really helps me line everything up. A little spendy but worth it

My 5x24 inch ruler. I use it for tons of things and it fits just right on my table. I have a couple of the green shaded rulers, and I can't see through them, I'm going to have to stick with black/white from now on.
I also love the flat daisy pins, they are just right for matching seams, not too thick to distort things and easy to pull out as I sew. And I love my Janome 6600! It is a great machine~! |
There are so many fun toys....
Fiskars rotary cutter - LOVE the grip - and the stuff to go with it Sharp to the point scissors. Iron and ironing boards (yes, I said boards - regular and mini). Sewing machine - Pfaff. Hmmm.... That's probably the top of the list, really it comes down the basics. |
My SEWING MACHINES... :D
Let's see.... Cloth tape. Stuck with only material, cloth tape and my sewing machine, I'd get by. I wouldn't be thrilled but it could be done. |
I love a big ironing wood thing, (can't remember what it is called) that is supposed to fit on your ironing board. I didn't like it on the ironing board so I put it on a 6 ft folding table and got a sit of 4 bed "risers" to go under the legs of my table. It is a perfect height for both ironing or cutting.

good scissors- the kind you threaten the family with being beheaded if they even think of using them.
lots of rotary cutter blades. Bobbins for your machine so you can make multiples for your project and save time. I only have 4 and I make them 2 at a time, saves a bit of time, but I could save more time if I had more. |
I have never heard of the "side winder".
Where could I get one? Could you PM me some info ??? Thanks |

LMAO!!! TJ just talked about my sewing scissors that I came un-glued about when he used them! I'm forever using my 6 1/2" square ruler. Other than that, my sewing machine. If I had to sew my hand, I wouldn't sew at all. |
