recently whenever I would read a post it would turn black. Now it stays blue. How can i get it to turn black so i really know what i have read. Thank you any and all for your help

Yep, that's what I do. Click on the "Unread Topics" link at the top of the page. I only read Main and Pictures, so I filter out everything else. You can do this by clicking on "My Profile" then you will see:
You can see the list of all sections on the board and subscribe/unsubscribe HERE
Click on the hot link word "Here" and select the topics you want to see.
Then when you go to unread topics, only those will appear. As you read the posts, they will drop from the list when you refresh.
