Currently, my thread <all spools... no cones> are stored on the June Tailor wooden stands.... out in the open. It works ok.... but I am considering finding something where they will be enclosed to keep the dust off of them (ie something with small drawers). One requirement for sure is to be able to see the color of the thread without having to pick the spool up.

I'm curious.... how do you store your thread and are you happy with it?

Thanks!

I've seen people using the plastic cases for the little Hot Wheels types of toy cars.

You might need to take your spools with you to make sure that they will fit in the little compartments.

Thanks for the post. I'll be watching as I also wondered how to store the thread without picking up every spool.BrendaK.

I was pondering the same thing.. I just bought 100 spools from connecting thread ( they had a sale and I couldn't resist...) I was veering toward scrapbooking drawers, they are thinner than the regular drawer;lay spools on side so I see colors when I open the drawer but downside, where do I find the space for it?? my room is already full with all my fabric stash..

I just stick mine in plastic tupperware...which maybe isn't the most organized way to do it!

My thread is in clear plastic boxes made for fishing tackle. Tall enough for the thead to stand up, and moveable sections.

I keep most of minein draweres that fit under my sewing table. Also, have an old Coats & Clark spool holder, I bought at an auction years ago.

Mine thread sppols are in a drawer. I have a storage unit that has a single drawer and then I think it was supposed to be shoe storage under it but I use it for Fat Quarters and separate them by colour.

I have some of the hard plastic see through bins with individual holders for each spool that I bought at Joanns at 75%off. They are tooooo expensive to buy here in Canada. The other thing I use for spools, material, projects, scraps(labelled by size etc) are the plastic containers that lettuce and strawberries etc come in from Costco. They hold well, are see through and stack great.

I store everything in them. Extra untensils for a crowd, cookie cutters, everything is separate and visible instead of being at the bottom of a cupboard. Also, I have a neverending supply because I just keep buying lettuce and stuff.

I bought some used DMC embroidery thread cabinets I found on Craigslist. I have one by the machine I use for my quilt piecing & regular sewing. And one by the machine I use for my machine quilting. They have 3 drawers. I use them for my spools of thread & corresponding bobbins, stitch cams for my Singer 403, & the various attachements for the respective machines. Very convenient & handy.
