My DD's BFF is getting married Sept 10th, and I want to make her a quilt. I got the material, months ago, but then they were moving the date all around, so I just waited until I was sure it was going to happen. Well it is on 9/10. I got the book to make Lovers Knot quilt and while I want to change one of the materials, that isn't a problem. Once I find the book.... Anyway is 5 weeks enough time to get a double bed quilt completed, or should I look for a quicker pattern? I work full time, but usually can manage some sewing time in the evenings, and all weekend if i try really hard. So, if you have made this patten, what do you think?

All of El's patterns are easy, they just look complicated. Probably the hardest thing to get done is the 'sandwich'. If you are diligent you should be able to get it done. No, I have not done this specific pattern, but lots of others of hers.

Yes, I agree with the comment above... Eleanor's quilts are reasonably simple to make. Just be sure to follow all her instructions step-by-step very carefully. I haven't made that particular quilt but it's very pretty!

If you are comfortable with curved piecing, you should have time. If you are not, then I would change to another pattern.
If it was me, I would probably pick something that was difficult looking but easy piecing like Triple Irish Chain. |
I don't think you will have any problems. I am making one and have all the blocks ready to sew together. Let us see a picture when you finish and have fun.

i made the lover's knot after watching her show when it was still on tv. i was a novice at the time and didn't have problems with it.

Lovers Knot is easy as there are NO curved piecing in it. The only problem I had was picking out the colors. I also made her Placemats with the Lovers Knot pattern. Actually it is like doing Log Cabin but pay particular attention to placement of fabric colors.

I made one years ago and it is one of the easiest patterns. If you have your squares and strips cut, you can assembly line sew and it goes quickly. Just be sure to square up as you go. Quilting will probably take more time than piecing.

E. Burns Lover's Knot is made up of 2 simple blocks that are strip-pieced. Don't think it will give you any problem. Go confidently in the direction of your dream ;-)
