I'm sewing the binding on my granddaughter's king size wedding quilt so I'm thinking about how to wash and dry it before I send it to her. It is huge..... 124" x 124" and whenever I've washed a quilt in my washer (cold, gentle setting) and dried it in the dryer (cool) the quilt balls up and I have to readjust it several times. I figure I'll have to go to a laundramat and use a jumbo sized washer but How do I dry it? I'd have to stand at the dryer and readjust the quilt a million times. I don't have a clothesline outside and did I say it's huge?
ps.... any suggestions on soap? I think the Tide I usually use would be too harsh.

Its a beautiful quilt.
I do just as you said.
I take each quilt to the laundrymat and use the jumbo front loaders (and throw in a couple color catchers). And I stop the dryer every couple minutes to un-roll it.
I use Dreft detergent. I figure if it gets baby items clean it'll get a quilt clean, and it's gentle.

those laundry mat dryer can handle it without too much trouble. And I agree with the baby soap if your worried about that. Pretty quilt =)

I agree with the laundromat visit. Mine has a couple of larger dryers too. There is a special quilt detergent, check at your LQS. I'd throw in a couple of color catchers, just in case.

Laundromat for sure. I would not use TIDE. Try a quilt soap or Woolite. Cold Water and very low heat.

I use regular laundry detergent on my quilts all the time. If you didn't pre-wash your fabrics and are concerned about bleeding I'd toss in a couple of color catchers. I use warm water, perm. press cycle. I dry in my regular dryer on the perm. press setting as well. I just adjust as necessary to get the whole thing dry. I'd rather be home doing that and multi-tasking with sewing or whatever than sitting at the laudramat for however long it's going to take and feeding that many quarters/dollars into a machine.

Try to figure out how the new owners will launder it and do that, or be sure you give them directions.

Can you drape it over a shower rod to dry since you don't have a cloths line? Then you could fluff it in the dryer.
