We are up at my daughter's home, and yesterday I made coffee cake, and made a HUGE mistake. I was looking at the spices, and instead of picking up the cinnamon, I got the ground Cumin instead. Not what one expects in coffee cake. I'm trying to redeam myself and made some again. I put the cumin up higher than the cinnamon in the spice cabinet, and used the right thing this time. GD Lauren told GS Nicholas that I made coffee cake again today, and he replied, "I hope it is REAL coffee cake this time." :-P :-P

Oh, no - what a horrible mix-up. Hopefully you could laugh at this.

I bet the next one was much more like coffee-cake. :)

Years ago when my kids were small, my mother in law at the time used to make refrigerator cookies alot. They were always so good. This one time my kids asked grandma to make her cookies for them so she did....instead of using vanilla...she grabbed the bottle of liquid smoke!!!!! Talk about NASTY NASTY cookies. LOL

When my husband I were first married he asked me how I knew what to do with all those spices. I told him that a lot of times it actually says what it goes with on the back of the container.
So the next day he decided to surprise me with french toast, with dill, paprika and parsley.

I keep my spices in alphabetical order for that reason! Double check before putting in. I love to bake, and that is a real fear I have.....

We all have our mishaps. One time I was making brownies for a work function. One with nuts one without to satisfy all. Well about the time I was leaving to go to work I realized that the one batch hadn't set all the way thru; it was gooey inside. At work I put a sign on them one saying one w/nuts and the other was molten lava brownies. Everyone loved them and no one knew of my mishap in the kitchen

Yep...made a pie once with salt instead of sugar. In my defense tho, I was very young and flour, sugar & salt were kept in canisters on the kitchen counter. The salt canister was next to the sugar - need I say more? It sure looked like sugar. Duh!
