I know Grandparents' Day is not a well known "special day" but it was this past Sunday. I am curious to know if any grandparents on The Quilting Board were acknowledged on this occasion.
The lack of recognition for me(and my husband) had nothing to do with the fact that this was, sadly ,the anniversary of 9/11. I guess I am feeling a little disappointed, as we babysit the 3 year old twins and their 18 month old sister daily...and ask no compensation. I know the parents were aware of the day, as it has been discussed on the childrens' TV programs for the past 2 weeks.
Thanks for listening to my rant.

No recognition here - didn't expect it. We use Mother's Day and Father's Day for the Grands as well as the parents.

I was always the only one in our family to recognize Grandparents day & at the very least send my Grandmother a card.

UGH!! I am guilty of allowing my kids to miss that day yesterday.. CRAP. I have three teen girls and didnt even realize it was Grandparents Day. I think it is tough to remember because there wasnt a Grandparents day when I was younger? And, I have no Grandparents living anymore... so... ya. There are my excuses. :(

I batted 1 out of 2 even though I sent both of them a reminder to send my MIL and FIL a Grandparents' Day Card. I guess if I were a baseball player, batting a .500 was pretty good.

None here, but none expected. This fairly new "holiday" ticks me off. We have too many, with mother's day and father's day, birthdays, Christmas and Easter. I don't expect anything from my children or grandchildren for this newly made up "day".

The two of my daughters that are still at home made breakfast for lunch after church for my daddy (their G'Pa) and his gf, who are very devoted, doting grandparents. I know they planned it at least a week ahead of time, because they invited them a week ahead of time. All day Saturday I wondered why they were so intent on getting the house cleaned up, and hollered at ME when I left something sitting out! I'm really proud of them because I completely and totally forgot about it.

They probably heard about it and got reminders from school or church (or both) :)

Amazingly, this little known holiday was instituted almost 40 years ago. Probably the only reason I knew of it that many years ago is because my first job in high school (1975-1978) was, of all places, a party supply/Hallmark card shop.

Here's some interesting info about Grandparents Day:

"The impetus for a National Grandparents Day originated with Marian McQuade, a housewife in Fayette County, West Virginia. Her primary motivation was to champion the cause of lonely elderly in nursing homes. She also hoped to persuade grandchildren to tap the wisdom and heritage their grandparents could provide. President Jimmy Carter, in 1978, proclaimed that National Grandparents Day would be celebrated every year on the first Sunday after Labor Day."
