in Texas. If you don't like it, wait a while.

Well, I woke up to thunder and rain this morning in North Texas. First rain in months. It was only .15 inch in the gauge, but every little bit helps. This go round, we got the 20% chance and the percentage doubles for Friday. The lake here is at it's lowest level in decades.

Yesterday, it was 105 and broke the record for hottest Sept 13 on record in 1930. Back then it was 101. A few places North of me in Oklahoma also broke records with 107 and 108 temps. It is presently 75 and nice and cool.

There have been fires all over Texas. The one near Austin is the worst. It was in Bastrop and over 1500 homes were burned. In my county, the fire chief said since July 3 there have been over 85 grass fires. And all of them point to arson!!!! The one near me burned over 1000 acres, but no lives or homes lost. It is time for some long, slow, soaking rains to heal our land.

I agree. I live in San Antonio and we too are seeing the effects of prolonged high temps and no rain. Have had several grass/brush fires break out in the past couple of weeks but so far have been controlled. I sure hope this drought ends soon.

I hope you get some rain and the temps stay down.

As for the suspected arson.... all I can say is there is a special place for some people.

Hi, quiltykitty. It's still very dry here at Rogers. We haven't had any rain in a loooong time! Last week's cooler weather was a nice break from the heat, but this week the temps are back up in the 100s. It's getting so I'm not bothered by the heat so much any more.......I just want it to RAIN! The wildfires scare me to death and we've been lucky in our area so far, but it could happen in an instant. Next time you get a little rain, send it down our way, please!

My state, Kansas, is dry too but not like you in Texas. The news about the fires is horrific. Arson! You know, we had that happen several years ago during a hot dry summer. There were many fires and they finally got him caught. He was a volunteer rural fire fighter! Guess he loved fires. He was punished, but I never thought severely enough for all the damage and near disasters he caused.

I agree, quiltykitty. I'm fighting to focus on work instead of being outside to feel the spinkles on my face. :)

We haven't gotten a lot of rain in Minnesota either, but our temps are down now in the 70s. Fall is here for us! It was one hot summer!
Stay cool. I hope you get some much needed rain very soon!

We've heard rumors of a possiblity of rain here maybe by the weekend. There are actually some white fluffy clouds in the sky instead of billows of smoke so that's a good sign!
