I think this subject has been touched on before but...
when quilting a flannel quilt do you use some kind of batting between the layers or do you just put the flannel top and flannel backing together?

I use batting, but I also usually make my baby quilts a little larger so they are used for a long time. It is a personal preference.

Most baby quilts I make for my family are used and washed very often, so I use flannel as the batting as well. I use warm & natural batting on the ones where I know the mother plans to save as an heirloom quilt.

Thank you for the quick response, Sadimae. I have 2 flannel baby quilts to complete and I wasn't sure about the batting or not. Now I know.

quiltinggirl...Are you saying that you use flannel as the batting as well? Flannel top, flannel batting, flannel backing...is this correct?

GramaJ 09-15-2011 01:29 PM

I would just use front and back fabric...should be warm enough and softer....

I use flannel for the batting and then another layer for the backing

Thank you everyone for all the help.

ive done both- most i put batting in but once in a while i make a light weight one with out batting. batting makes them very nice and fluffy soft.

I always put batting in my flannel baby quilts but then I live in Canada not Arizona. I use Hobbs Polydown as it washes and wears well.
