I am new here. looks like a real cool site.
What kind of thimble do others use when quilting. I am in need of new ones and wondering what works and what doesn't. I have tried the old fashioned kind and I just can't make them work. I have used a leather one that goes around the finger and that has done pretty well but doesn't hold up. Ideas??

Welcome to the board from South Carolina. I don't usually use thimbles so I can't help you there.

I'm using a black leather thimble that slips over the tip of my finger just like an old fashioned thimble would. It's comfortable and works well for me. Half the time I forget that it's on my finger when I go off to do something else in the house. I found it at the quilt shop in Kearney, NE but I sure don't remember the brand name of it. Sorry.

I patch my leather thimbles. This was posted a few days ago and it really works. I used the crinkled looking bandage that sticks to itself from the drug store. Works good. Keep searching until you find what works best for you:)

I use a Clover thimble. It's adjustable and the end is open for my fingernail. This is the only one that really feels comfortable for me, I have tried plastic, the old fashion ones and the leather ones, like Clover the best.

I use a leather thimble for quilting and when handsewing binding as I have a habit of pushing the needle with the tip of my finger. If a spot gets worn I will put a piece of moleskin over it and its good to go.

Welcome to the QB. Waving from Texas. I am a handquilter but never use a thimble. Then Beenana sent me a package of these cute things you pull off and stick on the fingers you usually poke. Love them. I usually buy good quality bandaids that are flexible and use them too. LOL. Just put one on eahc of my quilty fingers. :):)
