Difference Between Treadle Belts?

My DD bought two treadle belts some time ago. Both were red not the usual brown ones. The first red one she put on broke the first time she began to sew with it. And it kept cracking and breaking. Any suggestions? I don't like the red color, ugh. Does not look vintage to me.

I don't know the answer but you can get the tan leather ones from Sew Classic. She provides great service.

That sounds like a good idea. Charlee, how do you know what length to buy? There wasn't a belt on my treadle when I bought it.

is it less expensive to buy the leather boot laces? I am gonna need to buy a belt soon, I think................

To measure the length you need you can just run a piece of twine or something through the path and then measure to see how long it is. I was thinking of using yarn but that may stretch. I think I will try the bootlace for my next one to put in a cabinet too.

The leather bootlaces come in a 72 inch length, I buy those and cut them down to size. :)

I've been cleaning up my treadle and need a new belt. I think I'll give these a try. Thanks for the tip.

I've heard that you can use oxygen tubing

Thanks for the info. I'll give it a try. How do you fasten the ends together? On another thread someone used dental floss to stitch the ends of a belt together. Not sure how to finish the boot laces.
