That makes no since to me. I have a kitchen aid mixer (for about 10yrs) and I put mine in the dishwasher all the time. I also have a small hand mixer and the blades to that go in the mixer as well. It sounds like there was some kind of chemical reaction. She might want to contact Kitchen aid about it.

I agree with Judy, I have had mine for years and have never had a problem, my beaters always go in the dishwasher.

As with the other posts here, I've had one for years and always put the beaters in the dishwasher. Never had a problem. Contacting Kitchen Aid seems like the best idea.

A certain type of metal does not agree with the chemicals in dishwasher powders. We have an ice cream scoop that does the same thing. I found if I scrub it with Barkeepers friend it comes off.
Certain flatware and cooking pots will do the same. Aluminum will also discolor in a dishwasher.

My Kitchen Aid instructions say not to put the beaters in the dishwasher. Now after reading this thread I sure am glad I didn't. Hope Kitchen Aid is able to help her.

My kitchen aid has a white plastic coating over the blades and I have no problem with them in the dishwasher, but I work in a hospital kitchen, and those blades-for a commercial mixer, are not plastic coated and they get a funny feel to them, when they come out of the commercial dishwasher. I tend to agree that it is a reaction to the chemicals in the soap.
