Girly fish quilt - done!

I was determined to make a fish quilt for a dear friend's first grandchild. The daddy was so special to me and mine while he was growing up and especially as a teen and young adult. His passion is fishing and I even have a note on my frig he wrote years ago claiming fishing as a lifelong love after I teased him about other "lifelong" loves he'd had in the past. So ... had to be fish. I just knew a boy was coming so collected fabric for a boy fishy quilt. When SHE became known I tried to turn all that fabric into a girly quilt with varying degrees of disaster. Finally found this pattern and went this direction. Taught myself to applique in the process.

Pattern: from Fabric Cafe - Fuzzy Fish. You're supposed to use chenille where I put rick-rack, but ... I had the rick rack and after buying all the BOY fish fabric just couldn't see spending more. I did alter the border - it was meant to be varying blues and greens and I put the brighter fish colors there, but otherwise it was made as written - a rarity for me!

Fabrics: blues are Joanne's. I get fabrics everywhere because if I were able to just get LQS fabrics my projects would be severely limited by my cashflow. BUT... I really wish I'd gone for a better quality. Color's fine, but it just doesn't feel as nice. Others are FQ's from my stash - probably from bargain bags I got from Fabric Cafe's site.

Backing: minkee I think is from Connecting Threads, but ... maybe not. It was on sale somewhere!

No batting. Binding is the backing brought over, scalloped with a wavy rotary blade, and sewn with a scallop machine stitch.

I LOVE this quilt, but will be glad to send it to its new home. Wish I could be there when they open it, but my dear friend will be flying to see them after the baby arrives and will deliver it for me.

A very warm looking quilt. It also will grow with her, not just a baby quilt. Love the colours.

Margaret - that's what I thought - it would go on the floor nicely - has some weight to it so shouldn't creep. And would be great for a toddler bed. Don't know if she'll like the theme as much as her dad will, but ... maybe!

That is an adorable quilt! You did a marvelous conversion to a girlie quilt! And your border modification ties it all together beautifully.
