Rotary cutting on Back of mat - You tube video????
 

Hi everyone, I remember reading about a youtube video that shows a way to rotary cut on the back of a mat and not use the lines. I was hopping someone might have the link to that video. Please post or PM me. Thanks.

I use both sides equally -- The lines on a mat are so untrue that I wouldn't dare to use them for a measuring tool. I will use them to line up the fold line and square up a large piece. But then I'm as likely to use the edges of the table.

I've used the back as well without the aid of a video. Just flip that puppy over and use your ruler to measure. Far more accurate, in my opinion, that the lines on the front which I never use anyhow.

i simply use the back of the mat as much as the front. like Mim, i only use the lines as a guide to line up the fabric

My teacher says she never uses the side w/the lines since they are rarely true to measurement. She always uses the back.

This is going to sound like a broken record by the time others chime in, but I, too, use either side without regard to the lines. That's what rulers are for. AND you double the life of your cutting mat.

I agree , the best bet is to use both sides so that it wears evenly and I don't have to buy one as often.

If you can't trust the lines on the mat, why do they put them there in the first place? Or make them true measurements?
Maybe it's not me after all (not being able to cut the same measurements)!

Just a quick question---What brand of mats are you using that are so inaccurate? I don't usually use the lines, but I have found the Omnigrid to be as accurate as the operator.
