cushions for outdoors
 

I have cloth cushions in my outside chairs. They are damp o wet more than dry.
Is there a fabric I can make my cushions stay dry, any good ideas out there.
I have 2 chairs and one love seat. I have 4 seats and 4 backs, plus 4 oblong pillows.
I am tired of get wet. Thanks for any help.

This will sound crazy but my boyfriends mother was having the same problem. She found some shower curtains that she liked (plus they were on clearance) bought them and sewed them as slip on covers. They work perfectly as they were designed for the shower. Hope this helps. Good luck.

There is a spray that you can get to make fabric waterproof. People use it on boots and tents. Our walmart carries it in the camping area. I have used this, and it worked good.

Like ghostrider said Sunbrella fabric is the best. I had it on some PVC furniture for years and the chairs wore out before the fabric did. Also I have made covers and used fabric glue instead of sewing them.

I, too, would like to make cushions for my lawn furniture. I'm not good at making my own patterns, but what would I use for the stuffing? It would need to be a lot thicker than batting. Any ideas?

You can also use those table cloths that are wipeable on one side and flannel like on the other. I have covered my cushions on the front porch with these for several years. I cut them to fit the pillows and staple on the back, my only problem the neighborhood cats get on them and scratch until they ruin them. So this year I put some rolled plastic on them, the kind you put on carpet to let you ride your office chair back and forth, but I put the part that goes into the carpet up so they would leave it alone. They still get on them at times, but I can still set my purse and packages down when I come home. LOL Darn cats.
On the back porch I make long pillow like covers to slip on my cushion set, covers the back and seat in one. Leave the bottom part open, easy to slip on and off to put in washer/dryer when needed. Matter of fact today cut 4 cushion covers after buying red/white Hawaiian print material on here. Thanks Shannon.

I googled 'filling outdoor cushions' and got a lot of hits. I would guess that it would need to be poly or some other synthetic fiber. Looks like it's expensive. Might want to hit the second hand stores for used cusions and re cover those.

I have foam cushions from my chairs I have now, this foam stuff is expensive. The batting maybe for a flat seat.
However the batting I think would take a long time to dry for sitting. I was wondering about putting a plastic trash bag on the foam and then covering it. I am not sure snice my skin and plastic have a hard time.
