New covers for down pillows
 

I have several "old" down pillows that have started leaking feathers. What is the best solution to fix them? New covers? New pillow cases sewn closed? What kind of thread count is needed to contain the feathers? Would "store bought" pillow cases work? Any advise is appreciated.

We have a place called "The Country Store" in our area that will clean and recover your down pillows or comforters for a fraction of what it would cost in agony to try it yourself. Down is very fine and opening the pillows will be enough pressure to have that fine stuff afloat.

If you want to keep the old feathers and make new ticking[covers] you will need to get new heavy ticking by the yard. By all means find a quiet day and DO go outside to change the feathers into your new cases. There will be little down feathers all over the place, and when you get through, throw the old cases away! We used to do this once a year and we feathered all over the neighborhood,'cause we had several. Get a mouth cover too. Barny P.S. We did one at a time. Used our hands to reach into the old case and put feathers into the new one.

For me, I'd just encase the old pillow with casing into a new ticking cover and sew it closed. You'd wouldn't have feathers/down floating all over the place. I'm into making things as easy as possible. :)

Do this in the spring when birds are starting to nest. They will love the "nesting material" and help clean up the neighborhood!!!
