Introducing the Fraternal Twins
1 Attachment(s)
I've been looking for Elna's for awhile. Went after one, and the seller had two, of course I went for it. Now I just need the Lotus and Supermatic. One is the ZigZag, the other the SU with cams. Both had the metal cases which was a plus.

Cool. I've got quite a few Elnas. I just sold a Supermatic, they're great machines. The Star Series like what you've got, and the Carinas are the quietest machines I own. Seriously.

I had four of these machines when I taught sewing in home economics back in the 80's. They were tempermental with the students, but I LOVED them! I went searching on ebay for one, but got distracted by the Vintage Singer bug. I would still LOVE to have one. They sew smooth as silk IMO! Yours are in such great condition too! Enjoy

I love my 1973 SU with cams. That machine has sewn everything possible and is still, as Candace says, the quietest around. Not a good quilter because of the self adjusting presser foot, but wonderful at everything else. My children had some trouble with her until they learned to hold the threads when starting to sew. That is Miss Elna's only issue.
Lucky you if you got these at a good price. I have been looking for one for a friend and they have held their value, that's for sure. |
The more I use my newly found Elna Surermatic the more I start to like sewing with it. Learning that there is more vintage machines than just black Singers. I will be more open minded when on my quests from now on.

They do indeed sew nicely. The ZigZag machine actually does nice FMQing.
The quietest machine however, still goes, hands down, to the Necchi Supernova! |
The SU on the left is exactly like my machine. Bought it in 1976 when we lived in Tulsa, OK. It is a wonderful machine. It will sew anything and I've never had any repairs other than replacing some metal part that the SMG said doesn't wear out unless you sew constantly (which I did when my girls were growing up). My machine has never been tempermental, I think she loves me ;)
