I'm in a guild group, 8 of us have decided to do a strip quilt, each person does a 48" length, so I start mine off, do blocks to measure 48" when sewn together, then pass it to the next person they do there strip then pass it on ect, ect, now as I haven't done this before I would like some input as to what blocks or pattern would be the best for this kind of quilting, Thanx for your help

You are doing a Row Robin. The term started with a Round Robin where each person did a border around a center block or panel. It is easier to do a Row Robin because the finished quilt stays straighter. If you Google Row Robin you should find numerous examples to decide what you want to do. Some members did a seasonal Row Robin last year?

Do you mean eight people will each do 48" on each of the quilts? That's one huge quilt if that's what you mean?

not if you use 6" or 8" blocks on each row.

Maybe she means the width of the quilt will be 48"?

Did a row robin several years ago with 11 others. We had to specify that the rows could be 6" or 9" finished and had to be 54" long. Each of us had a box that included the fabrics we wanted to have used, our theme (hearts, stars, traditional blocks, etc.) and a quilt diary for each person to write in. We had a month to finish the row, then we met for dinner and to pass on the box. We would show all the rows, but the person whose row was being shown had to leave the room. That way, everyone knew what your rows looked like, but you didn't get to see them until the final month. With 12 people, it took a year, then we had a month to sew all the rows together. My theme was months of the year, and I had a sign up sheet that was passed around before the first exchange so that each person could choose a month and there wouldn't be any duplicates. I call it my calendar quilt.

This sounds like a fun idea! I'd like to try one of these sometime!
