Embroidery machine

I was wondering if anyone here uses an embroidery machine for their quilting? If you do, which machine do you use?

Thanks for your in-put.
Debbie

I have done this, but only a little. It really isn't practical for larger quilts; you have to support the weight of the quilt so that it doesn't drag when the machine moves the hoop. Getting the hoop around the quilt with top, batting, and backing all together is a bit of a challenge. Personally, I don't recommend it for any but the smallest quilts. It would be too easy to ruin the embroidery machine.

I use my Viking Ruby embroidery machine for all of my quilting. I have made 3 baby quilts, 14 twing size quilts, and numerous placemats and table runners. I don't FMQ at all.

Don't you have to support the quilt while you're quilting it too? I've machine quilted/embroidered king size quilts on my machines - the first one was a Viking designer SE, short throat and my current one a Janome 12000 and had no trouble whatsoever. I did this work on my dining table. Worked like a champ.

I did it on a Bernina 830. What adjustments to the embroidery unit did you make. What kind of pattern did you use?

I quilt with my Bernina 830 - I use King Tut thread, a 90/15 top stitch needle. Also the tension should be adjusted to the sewing tension - not the embroidery tension. I generally use an outline design. The next one will be feathers, eagles and stars on a patriotic quilt.

I have a
Brother Pacesetter ULT2003D and a quilt I had made back in 2002. I took it apart each row. Then embroidered the blocks I wanted to quilt with a quilting design. I have embroidered several blocks and didn't want it quilted over so this was the only way I could see to do it. Now I'm in the process of quilting the blocks and borders. I think it will take a while. I will cute the back in strips and add them as I go, sitd as I go this time. Will have blocks of squares on the back. The quilted blocks I will stitch 1/4 in in one each block. Enjoy your quilting.
