Question about Insul-bright

I'm making an ironing board cover and my instructions say to put the cotton top onto the heat-resistant batting wrong sides together.

Does anyone know which side is the wrong side? Is it the side that looks like batting or is it the shiny side?

Thanks in advance,
Dray

I have no idea. I just use a cotton cover over a batting type pad on my ironing board.

I've used it in hot pads and was told there is no right or wrong side.

I dont think there is a right or wrong side either. Ive made a few ironing caddys now using the ironing board fabric and insulbrite and didnt notice if there is a right or wrong side. I just now re read my instructions and it says nothing about a right or wrong side.

I think the wrong side is the side which looks more like batting. But in the case of the ironing board cover, I think the shiny, heat reflective side should face up, so it should be against the cotton top. Sometimes when I use insulbrite it is hard to tell which side is which---sometimes the sides look very much the same.

Thanks for asking this questions. Sometimes when I make hotpads I'm not sure which side should be out. I always two layers of insul-brite just to be safe.

I think they are suggesting that your hand should go on the pretty side (the finished top), and the metallic side of the insulbrite should face away from the top, so that it is on the side that will be touching the hot things. But you need at least one more layer of batting (I add at least 2 more layers) to keep the heat from getting through.

But if you're using it as a hot pad, you'll want the pretty side up, so that you can see it when the pot is not there.
