quilt suggestions for 1/2 sq. triangles

Help, I made 3 1/2" squares from smocks from a friends departed mother. For their 40th anneversary I planned on making a quilt from them. Either w/ those sqs. or 3" half sq. triangles. I also purchased 3yds of a complimentary tonal. Now I feel stuck! I want to do justice to the memory of their dear mother--she was such a sweet lady. BUT I need help. I know this is the place to come for great ideas.

Thanks for being here!!

Do you like the look of any of these? https://www.google.com.au/search?q=h...FYSTigft7YDoBQ
If you find one you like maybe someone here can help with the pattern. :)

I would take a look at Bonnie Hunter's www.quiltville.blogspot.com for her free scrap patterns. See if there is a pattern that you can use your squares in. The other idea would be to go on youtube and watch Jenny Doan's videos for the Missouri Star Quilt Co. I think you could use the squares in a smaller version of her Falling Charms quilt.

You could use those HST's for an X's and O's quilt--like giving kisses and hugs from Mom.

Thanks Woody, I found one called "Square Dancing Charm quilt" it led me to craftsy & they have the pattern. It calls for 5" charm sqs. Do you think 3 1/2"would work for me? I have 2 sisters & 2 nieces who live in Australia.

NanaC, Do you know where I can locate that pattern (to look at it)?

I like the hugs and kisses idea. There is a downloadable pattern at quiltmaker.com then I searched for Kisses and Hugs

It calls for 2 4'' sqs.per foundation pc. Can this be done w/ 3" sqs.? Is there a way to make it smaller? oops almost forgot. That's on the hugs & kisses pattern.

Almost any design can be done either larger or smaller than the original. You just have to figure out how many of the individual units you would need to make in order for it to be the finished size you want. I find graph paper/
quadrille paper very helpful when designing my own or redesigning an existing pattern.
In your case the 3" units would end with a finished design 3/4 the size of the original that called for 4" units.
Hope I've made sense!
