keeping spools and bobbins together
Can anyone suggest an inexpensive way to keep wound bobbins with their corresponding thread? At the moment I have a shoe box with each bobbin and thread in a small plastic bag, but as the numbers grow, it's not ideal.

I use rubber bands. Just slip a rubber band through the center hole of the bobbin then loop it around the spool. I keep the threads in categories of All purpose, machine quilting, hand quilting, etc. (separate boxes).

I use a Creative Options Thread Organizer From Joann's. I have one for poly and one for cotton. The thread and bobbin fit together in a space.

I use stretch bandage stuff, just a bit will do and is reusable. Can get it cheap at dollar store usually.

My grandfather made a holder for my Grandmother's thread with long wooden 1/4" dowels. I place the bobbin on the bottom and then the thread on top. Works great !! I only store the threads I use for my sewing machine on it.

I use pipe cleaners just put thru both and twist ends together

I don't. I use those rubberized rings to hold the bobbins. They aren't with the thread. Each machine has its own ring labeled. And then there are rings for different thread types: aurifil vs. whatever else I use. I've never had a problem this way.
One friend taught me to use my extra spool pin pointing up to hold my bobbins for any one project as I like to wind multiple bobbins at once for my works. |
I use the round rings too. Different color ring for each machine. I can see the color thread on the bobbins in a glance to match the spool thread. The bobbins will not fall out of the rings. I put the bobbins with the thread end down into the ring so no loose threads hanging out. I've been using up my filled bobbins and now buy Superior pre filled bobbins and Glide magna bobbins. I wished I had started using the prefills long ago!

Golf tees. The wide end keeps it from falling off, the point end slips into the hole in the spool.
