Placemats
1 Attachment(s)
My DIL would like me to make her some placemats in this shape. Sadly I don't have an original thought and am hoping you can give me some ideas for patterns besides strings.
Thanks for any help you can give me. |
I think you could use any pattern that isn't too big, make it square, the cut it to this shape. Yes, you'll waste a little, but it'd look great. I'd just be careful to make sure the fabric is centered in the middle of this shape, or wherever you want, before you cut it.

upside down Dresden?

I would go to Wally World or any dollar store and first purchase one for the shape. Then I would probably make a small block and machine applique it onto a larger background cut in a rectangle. After quilting, I would cut into the desired shape.

Some of the most beautiful placemats I've seen are made from just one gorgeous print fabric, nicely quilted and bound. Perhaps your DIL would like to choose the fabric?

The shape looks like an apron, could add a pocket for the silverware.....oh and maybe a ruffle! LOL

I just did a Christmas one, nice background, looks like Christmas tree branches, appliqued onton ric rac lines going down cute ornaments, circles. plain but cute. try that. bing or google Christmas placemats or holiday placemats, a lot of inspiration there. good luck, show us what you do please.

I have made it plain but could use trim around edge. McCalls Quick quilts had one that was divided. about 3yrs ago. Was a summer issue. They were very nice. These are very nice on round or oval tables.

I have a very similar shape to this. The pics that came with it are: a solid with a raw edge applique of fruit & veg, a diagonal stripe border around a pieced block centred and a funky one with the outline of a plate, a knife and a fork appliqued on top. The "plate" was labelled. Idea: add a tab to the side to place a napkin in. HTH Shiree.
