Degreasing 99K
 

My Old Timers is catching up with me. I have searched and searched and I can't seem to find the answer. (I'm sure I over looked it.)

I have a Singer 99K that was rescued from a flea market. It has been over greased, inside. It's everywhere. Large big clumps. What do I need to use to clean some of it out?

It appears that some may have gotten into the motor. I was told there was a spray at the auto parts store I can spray into the motor to help clean out the grease that is in it. I think it is for cleaning points.

Can someone either send me the links with this information or post the information for properly cleaning this little sweetheart? :rolleyes:

I'm 99% sure I read something about degreasing/cleaning a machine, on this board. Unfortunately, it may have been as long as a year ago. :rolleyes:

Careful on what you spray in the motor. Make sure it says specifically that it's safe for use in electric motors. Some cleaning solvents will damage the varnish on the motor's windings and you can ruin your motor. You might be better off just gently wiping the grease off inside and calling it good.
Better safe than sorry.
