Native American Quilt

Looking for ideas. I am still a beginner, so I can only handle so much but my daughter who is 19 asked me to make her a "Native American" quilt. She is a descendant of the Gayhead tribe in New England. So I asked her what this quilt would look like and she said browns, tans and reds. But didn't offer any other vision. Not a lot of help for me! Any thoughts?

Google the tribe and go from there!

Basket patterns worked well for me, using Wintu patterns. The top row is specific to Wintu (California tribe). Do google the tribe's designs.

I was going to say look at southwestern patterns, but her tribe was in New England. The photo posted here looks good. Look at the patterns on blankets made by the drive.

I was thinking of a seminole pattern - made like a braid, but looks like squares set on point after trimming.

Bear claw would be a good block. Maybe moon over mountain.

What an interesting subject! You might have better luck googling "Wampanoag basketry patterns" rather than blanket patterns - some of those are easier to convert to quilt blocks. This is one example of a bracelet design that might be easy for you to do as a quilt (from this link http://www.manyhoops.com/wampum-armb...bracelets.html

oh yes, you could definitely design a quilt around that.
