"How much would you charge to make me a quilt?"
I made a jelly roll race quilt for the gift exchange at work, it was a white elephant party where the gifts are stolen from each other, and (not surprisingly) my quilt was the first gift to be retired - once it's stolen the 3rd time it is no longer available. Anyway, the quilt was about a twin size - really just a little larger than a stadium throw actuallyk, and someone asked me what I would charge to make a queen size.
Since this pattern is so simple to make, I was thinking $50-75 for labor, plus reimbursement or she provide the materials. Does this seem a fair price or am I under/overcharging? I'm planning a simple stitch-in-the-ditch for the quilting. Thanks, Gina |
How long will it take you to do the whole thing? I know in the past I've failed to charge enough for the amount of time I've put into a project.

I think you are way undervaluing your time. By the time you bind it it would still take what, eight hours or so?
I would allow two days at least. A day to make , a day to quilt and an evening to bind. $150...plus fabric and batting.
I would charge minimum a 100.00 if for a close friend. They will supply materials also.
I wouldn't charge less than $100, and I would have them purchase everything, including batting and thread.
Honestly, I feel like $75 is a good price based on what the quilt will take you to make it. It is a fast pattern to do and by the time the person pays for the materials, you will price them right out of the quilt if they have to pay more than that.

75$$ for two days work that is less than minimum wage.
I would keep track of my time and charge between 10.00 dollars to maybe 15.00 dollars? Your time is worth more than minimum rate!
I think you are under charging. I would go at least $150 - 200. It is not as much fun to make a quilt for money as it is to make a quilt for yourself or as a gift. You want to price it so it is worth your time, experience and talent. Don't shortchange yourself, look at how expensive the "China quilts" are online at retail stores. Your's is better not equal.
