New or old idea?
 

I have SEVERAL magazine subscriptions and most of them
are in both formats (print & digital). As they expire I am only
going to renew the digital issues. Only print issues I want to
keep are Quilters World, and McCall's Quick Quilts.

So as I was thinking about what would be MY best way to
"view" the projects in the magazines without having to pull
every issue out.

What I came up with was to print ONLY the project page(s)
the page that has a small photo of each project. Clearly write
on the printed page, the magazine name and issue month/year
I am going to put these pages into sheet protectors and than into
a binder.

This way if I want to look for a project I can just pull the binder
out once I find the project I want only need to pull out that issue
thus eliminating the mess of magazines from pulling them ALL
out.

Anyone else thought of doing this?

i do the same, except i do it digitally... i love the ease of the computer!

I use the page protectors and go one step beyond you. I actually cut the patterns I want out of the magazines and keep them in binders with different categories like Wall hangings, miniatures, paper pieced, seasonal, quilting motifs, instructions or tutorials, etc. I like hard copy and love to look through the binders for inspiration and I don't have to go to a magazine at all.

This has been my method since I became interested in quilting after I retired in 1999.

For me I don't want to cut up or remove any of the patterns mainly
because if the time comes that I decide to get rid of my magazine
or god forbid that my hubs does it I want the next person to get them
fully in tact.

I keep thinking that I might go through all my magazines and scan all the
patterns that I like and save them to my computer. But first I want to get
my sewing room and fabric room cleaned and organized.

I like my magazines -- I will get out a bunch of old mags and spend hours reading through them. When I'm working on a project I will take a copy of the pattern to keep in the project box so I don't have to look for the pattern again when I want to work on that quilt.

I let all my subscriptions expire and have not regretted it at all. There are so many free patterns, videos, and forums on the internet we really don't need them any more. I donated about 40 years worth of magazines when we moved to a smaller house.

I wait until the end of the year and buy the CD with the entire years magazine on it. Fons and Porter just posted the years 2010,2011, and 2012. You can wait and buy their CD with ten years on it but that's just a bit tooooo long. They cost me $10 each which is a lot cheaper than buying it monthly.

i also do what ube quilting does. then when i make one i either keep
or throw it away.
