Redwork for a winter quilt
 

I'm working on a redwork project and used Sulky Sticky Fabri-Solvy. I printed the design in my printer, removed the backing, stuck it to my fabric and started to stitch. Well, my hand needle keeps getting "gummed" up. Anyone ever use this product? Any hints?

I do Meg Hawkey's method, (Crabapple Hill Designs) She traces design onto fabric using brown micro pen, then embroiders it. I have a large light box I use to trace designs.

Like Tartan, I use a Frixion pen to trace the design on to my fabric. To keep my red threads from showing through if I travel a bit in the back, I iron on a very thin knit interfacing. That, of course, erases the design. I put the cloth into the freezer for a few minutes and the design is back, ready for my embroidery. That method works well for me.

technically, since the FabriSolvy is water dissolvable all you would need to do is to wipe down your needle with a wet cloth. If that doesn't work then wash it with a bit of liquid dish soap and water.

I had such good luck with a similar product from a different manufacturer, I was totally surprised by the stickiness on the needle. And, yes, AliKat, I could wipe off the needle, but what a pain if I have to do it every three or four stitches! It really takes the fun and relaxation out of redwork!

I use a different brand ( believe it comes in a yellow package) and have never had a problem with glue on my needle.

great idea! Use the freezer to "bring back" the tracing. way to go!

I got a really nice reply to my email to Sulky saying that some of the earliest produced Silky Sticky Fabri-Solvy had more stickiness than needed. They asked for my address so they can send me a new package of the product to try. I'm more than happy with the answer and the promise of a replacement product.
