my mom loved to quilt 04-15-2014 10:01 AM

learning from my mom!

my sweet mom has made literally 100s of quilts- due to health issues she is no longer able to quilt. I'm going through her house organizing everything- I am currently working on her sewing room- it really makes me appreciate all her hard work. Love this forum as I like learning about a hobby that was such a big part of my moms life! I am so thankful that she choose to spend her time making heirlooms for our family.

Welcome from Wisconsin! If you don't have the inclination to take up quilting yourself, I wish you luck in finding someone to help. It's wonderful that you're trying to help your mom take care of her projects.

(As a mother with a daughter who doesn 't quilt, it would be THE GREATEST gift to your mom if you would take a gander at quilting.....just a thought)

Welcome from Texas. I'm, at this time, finishing and repairing a few of my mothers quilts and quilt tops that she made before she passed and forgotten about. I feel really close to her while I'm doing this. If only I could have done all this while she was alive and told me the stories for each one. Oh well, I feel her presence in my sewing room and I'm happy.

That's awesome. I also, came to quilting late. But, was blessed to be taught the basics by my mom as well. We don't live in the same state, but, when we do get together, we still work on quilts together. Sometimes, I even teach her something. She gave me the love and basic knowledge. But, there are great online classes on craftsy and on you tube and blogs. (Sometimes they give updated very efficient ways to do some of the same things.) And sometimes, I just love doing it the "older" way. I find that my color placement is better. (I work on a lot of scrappy quilts.)

I hope you enjoy your time with your mom learning a new craft.
