Flour sack or other towels to embroider...
 

I do craft sales in fall and am looking for some reasonably priced towels to embroider and or decorate. Does any one have a good source? Thanks again for any help.

So far I find the ones at Joann's with my 40% off coupon is the best for flour sack towels. Our store will let you use the store printed coupon and one on your phone at the same purchase. Some people make their towels - I have not tried it yet - the cost of fabric and time would be more than what I can buy them for. But you may want to open the packages at the counter to make sure there are no flaws.

For hand towels - terry towels - I have found some nice ones at Walmart. They have different grades of towel. But I made a few for kids with their names on them so didn't want to use the top quality towels that would more than likely be in a rag pile within a year. Now that I think about it I bought a few at Target too.

I went kind of crazy for those holiday embroidery patterns - they are so cute and I am so new to machine embroidery.

Our ranch supply store carries flour sack towels -- they were about $1.00 each last time I checked -- I have at least 30 of them in the closet ready to embroider. :o

Sams Club and Costco sometimes have multipacks of the flour sack towels. I don't remember the price but it seemed reasonable.

I live on Long Island, NY. we don't have flour sacks here or feed sacks. they are made of paper here.
wish we had nice fab ones. Target has nice terry hand towels 2/$3

Found some on Amazon. Don't know what a reasonable price is but there was a set of 7 for $21.00 (Aunt Martha's) which comes out to $3.00 a piece for a 28" x 28" flour sack towel. I put them in my wish list.

Thrifty White drug stores have some of those towels. Crafts Direct, which is much like Ben Franklin (dime store). The brand from Walmart seemed too thin for embroidery, as did those at ShopKo. Perhaps using iron on pellon or wash away stabilizer would help. Joann's are previously mentioned carries Aunt Martha's.

I just bought some from www.towelsandhome.com and they are very nice towels. There are different ways to buy them, ie: priced per towel or in a bundle.

Sams Club has very nice feedsack towels. I think they are a little over $12.00 for 12. You can also order on line if you are a member. Walmart also has them but they may be somewhat smaller--I have not purchased any of them. I use to make days of the week tea towels and sell at craft fairs--always a best selling item. You will want to use vintage or lighter digitized designs or redwork if machine embroiderying and a very crisp backing that tears away easily. I always wash my new tea towels and starch and iron them before stitching. Hope this helps.
