I can't see it
 

#1piecemaker posted beautiful quilts here http://www.quiltingboard.com/picture...w-t256519.html and I love the brown and red and cream quilt but I can't see it in my brain. Can anybody tell me how that quilt is done? Thank you in advances.

Tilt your head to a 45 degree angle. It's just squares. Print the picture off. Turn it so the squares are square, not on point. Draw lines dividing the red and brown sections, you can see the block. It's 4 squares by 4 squares.

If you zoom in on the picture the 4 square is easier to see.

Thank you. I got confused. I think I see one block of 4 that is all creams, all reds, all browns, and another that is 2 cream with one brown and one red. Am I right when it looks like there are 4 basic blocks? Thank you so much for the help. This quilt has me excited to try to make it for Christmas.

I believe you are right, but might want to color on graph paper :). 2.5" squares for the individual, do you think?

Agree that these are squares (8 patch) set on the diagonal. Look at the picture and isolate each block by color. One block has brown/cream and the other is red/cream. Then look at the individual red or brown block divided into four quadrants. It's actually a very simple block to make. You should be able to draft it out without any problems. 2.5 inch strips would work well, each finished block would be 8 inches. You can do some strip piecing of some of the block components and it should go together pretty easily. I love what setting the blocks on the diagonal does for this quilt.

I drew this up in EQ for you and here's what I've come up with. You will have one diagonal row that consists of a brown 4-patch followed by a brown/red/cream 4-patch, then a red 4-patch followed by another brown/red/cream 4-patch. In my drawing, this is the longest diagonal row from edge-to-edge. The row beside that will consist of a plain cream squares (or a cream 4-patch) followed by a brown/red/cream 4-patch. I'm not sure what she did for the setting triangles, so I just left those patches blank.

Or another way to look at this is as a 16 patch made with just two different strip sets per color.
The blocks are set on point.
