Snow man applique out of fusible fleece??
I just tried finding fusible fleece and ended up with Thermalom 971 I think. It seems a bit thin but I know i've used a fusible white fleece or something like it before in making snowmen quilt blocks. Now, i want to put a larger snowman on a quilt top. Will this Thermolam hold up in the wash and with handling. I will stitch it down but wondered about it getting ruined, fuzzy, etc.
anybody used this for snowmen??? well so far i've looked and looked. it seems like i will have to use white fabric after all. |
Not sure I understand. You have Thermolam 971 and don't know how it will hold up? I looked it up and it is fusible fleece. Fleece should hold up just fine; it is simply a napped polyester knit. Although it is more often used as batting, I don't see why it wouldn't work for a snowman. Did find these reviews of it:

Could I see a picture? It might help me understand.

I'm simply making a quilt top of xmas charms with a snowman on one side. and maybe snowflakes. everything i've read says to fuse the fleece to the wrong side of the fabric leaving room around it to stitch the fabric to the quilt top.
I still may just use the fusible as is and not add white fabric. I'll have to think about that. I just wanted it to stay pretty since it will be a large part of the top. Keepsake quilting had a cute quilt and i'm doing one similar to that. http://www.keepsakequilting.com/productdetail/4606.htm |
Perhaps you could use a fusible interfacing for the wrong side of the white fabric. Helps to keep shadows, etc. from dark fabrics showing through. Not sure what you're looking for....:)

Ok, sorry to be so confusing. thanks anyway.

It was not a snowman, but I used anti-pill fleece, and fused it to a block. No problems yet.

If you want the effect of a fuzzy snowman on your quilt why not just use regular fleece? You could use a fuseable web under it like appliqueing fabric. Use either a buttonhole stitch, zig zag or satin to finish off the edges.
