Good size for cutting table
I have a very small sewing room, about 8'x10'. I have a collapsable table that when fully extended measures 40"x72". I have reorganized my room such that the table takes up too much space now even when partly collapsed, so I am wondering what a good basic size of table would be for cutting my fabric.
Would appreciate some thoughts. Thanks |
More is always better when it comes to this but my table is about 3 x 5 and seems to work well for me. Any bigger and it would be too big for my room.

I would think anything bigger than my mat (24"x36") would work for me.

I like to be able to cut across a piece of 45 inch fabric the way it comes off the bolt (22 in.) I would want my table to be big enough so I could cut 22 inches without having to fold the fabric again.

I was thinking of getting a couple of the 4 cube shelf units from Walmart for storage and putting a top on that, but needed help thinking of a good size top that wasn't too big but would get the job done.

I really like my folding table with fiberglass top ("cheap" buy at Sam's)....it's 30 x 72. Put it up to cut - I can stack up all the fabric i'm going to use at one end and cut at the other......then fold it away (it folds in half so great for storage).... then get it out again to use when it's time to sandwich the quilt.

My cutting table and sewing table are the same. (it's about 2 x 6 feet) Not much space for me either, but I am so glad that I have a room. I have heard there are so many who do not.

This is the cube unit. I would get two and DH would put wheels on them and a piece under the table top to make the height 35". The depth of the units is over 15", so they are nice size cubicles. A good size might be 36"by 48" that will fit a mat and I can move it around. Just thinking out loud here. May have to tape it out to see the size. |
My kitchen island is 3' X 5'. I have one of those gathering tables that is the same height, but it's 60" square. I tried cutting on it, but it's just too big. The 3X5 allows me to walk around the mat and cut from 3 sides, with space to lay the cut fabric & the fabric to be cut.
