Suggestions for quilting

1 Attachment(s)
Good morning! Question. I attached a picture of one of the squares of a t-shirt quilt I am making. Would it be possible to just bar-tack in the corners of each square and leave it at that? I am hesitant to put a big "X" from corner to corner on these to hold them together. The squares are 15 1/2 x 15 1/2. Suggestions on how others have quilted their t-shirt quilts is appreciated.

I would quilt in the sashing and some details of the shirts.

I always outline the design since you don't want to sew thru the vinyl iron on decal. Sometime I outlined the letters if they were big enough. You have to quilt it depending on what your batting requirements are.

Check the quilting requirements on your batting. I would do an outline around the decals and then do a meander in the rest of the square.

When I didn't have a LA I would tie my T-shirt quilts. One tie every 3". It did not detract from the T-shirts at all. Now I usually do an E2E on them. I am not aware of any batting on the market that allows for no quilting as far apart as your shirt blocks are large. The largest space I know of is 10" which is some quilters Dream products and Warm and Natural. You will need to do something other than a bar tack in each corner.

Your batting will dictate the farthest apart you need to secure your quilt. I don't know of any batting that will allow the distance you are considering. even an "X" thru a 15 inch square is probably going to be an issue. Maybe quilt a straight line in the ditch along your sashing then maybe vertical and horizontal lines about 4" in . An all over design would also be good, like swirls, loops or a meander.
