Best way to sell a machine
 

I've made the hard decision to sell my machine. I currently have it in to be serviced (routine servicing, no problems). Once it returns then I have to figure out the best way to sell it and how to determine a price. Any suggestions from anyone on the board who has sold a machine would be greatly appreciated? I usually donate anything I don't use anymore, but can't afford to do so with this costly item. Thanks for your help.

Perhaps the shop that is servicing it can help you sell it. They might have a list of people waiting for gently used machines to buy. I know my LQS sells used machines.

You can look at ebay SOLD listings. This will give you a general idea for pricing.

At my guild, people occasionally make email announcements for themselves or on behalf of their friends or acquaintances who are selling fabric, machines or other quilting-related items. Maybe a guild in your area would allow you to notify their members about your machine for sale?

All suggestion are great. Check with your LQS or guild or technician that services your DSM. There is always a newbie looking for a less expensive machine. Usually I suggest eBay but then I have read on this board how difficult it is to safely ship a DSM.

I would first try to sell it at my quilt guild. That's where I sold a machine of mine. The trouble with putting it on craigslist is that a potential buyer will want to try it out, which means you can't meet in a public place like a restaurant parking lot, and I wouldn't want strangers coming into the house. You may also be able to sell it from a local quilt shop on consignment.

This is where I would start. You wouldn't have to pay for the servicing. You would have to add the servicing costs to the average selling and possibly have it taking up space for awhile.

I bought my HQ thru Craigslist. I first emailed the lady, then we had a nice long conversation on the phone and then went there with my DH. I know the are bad people in the world but I just cannot live my life always looking for the boogyman.

I sold a machine on Craigslist. In my case I ended up taking the machine to my office. I just set it up there and let them check it out. There is also a yahoo group called sewitsforsale - lot of stuff gets sold there.
