marking a scrappy guilt
I'm needing to mark a scrappy quilt top with a floral pattern. I can't free motion quilt without marking and I can't seen to find anything that will show well enough. Any suggestions?

Chalk? There are rolling chalk markers that come in several colors.

I have used a thin paper...my friend gave me a roll of the paper from the tables at the docs office. Make a stack...stitch design with no thread..now you can use as a sew thru or mark with chalk powder (use a small chisel foam brush...the cheapo kind). I usually practice on a white board till I can free motion with out marking. Hope this helps...

You can also use tissue paper. it's cheap enough and with as large as the sheets are 20x30, you can block off with marks and see where to but up the paper to place the dsigns.

Put a plain backing fabric on the sandwich, mark the back and quilt from the back. The other method of marking your design on tissue paper and stitching through the paper works as well. After quikting just tear off the paper.

I use the washable markers and stencils or trace my design onto the tissue paper then pin to the top where it needs to be, then quilt....super simple and fast either way

I agree with Tartan. I have quilted from the back of those occasions. But be aware, if your scrappy quilt is that busy, all your FMQ of a floral design might NOT SHOW UP!! I usually keep it simple and crosshatch those quilts.
