Help please with Mary Ellen's Best Press
I've starched fabric before using Sta-Flo. Then I starched the fabric, put in plastic bag for about a 1/2 hour so it could soak in, tumbled in dryer until just slightly damp, and pressed.
The Best Press bottle says just spray and press. When I do that my iron gets the residue all over it, even when using a pressing sheet. Can someone who has used this product tell me where I'm going wrong? Thanks so much! |
How saturated is the fabric? I have never had a problem with Best Press. Love the stuff. Maybe try backing off how much your spraying and waiting a few minutes to let it sink in. Good luck.

I spray it on and let it set for 5 minutes or so and I have had no problem with it. Now, you don't need to saturate it like you do with spray starch. I love the aroma of it and it does a wonderful job. Also, I do use 1/2 cup of Best Press and 1/2 cup of water in my sprayer and it makes the Best Press last longer and it does a good job for me.

I don't let it sit after spraying and I have no problem. I just spray lightly.
|
Thanks ladies! I'm sure I was spraying too heavily. I really appreciate your quick and helpful responses!
|
Will have to try that stuff someday, everyone raves so about it. I just use the sta-flo, and to make it smell good I add some febreze (or any brand fabric refresher)!
|
I think you're spraying too heavily, too. I spritz rather than spray.....and have no problems. I also add water ....1/2 Best Press and 1/2 water.......works just fine and costs 1/2 :) :)

another spritzer of the 50/50 mix...love the stuff and buy by the gallon

I have a question. Do you need to use both StaFlo and Best Press? I thought you use one or the other.
|
Cooky, I have used both and I don't put the fabric to dry in the dryer..I wait until whatever you're using to be absorbed, then press, if your iron is getting yuk on it it's because it isn't hot enough , use the steam setting first when pressing it evens out the starch/best press, go back to dry setting on the iron, continue pressing until the fabric is dry..
