How do I quilt a Hunter Star
1 Attachment(s)
Hey Quilters! I need your expertise in deciding how to quilt my Hunter Star and what color thread to use.
I have spent a year working on and off on this quilt for my wonderful grandson, and I am well pleased with the piecing but need help deciding how to quilt it. I am pretty good at stitch in the ditch, but can venture out a little. I have a Husqvarna Mega Quilter and have free motioned some. Please let me know what you think. Thank you |
If it were mine, I would use black thread and stitch in the ditch around all the black pieces. I'd be afraid anything more would detract from the beautiful piecing.

I am also a ditcher but in the larger triangle, I would also echo quilt once inside the triangle just to secure the batting approximately 1/2 inch. I prefer having the piecing be the star of the quilt and not compete with the quilting.

i'm with you, Maniac :)

nice work. I would maybe use two different threads and then ecco quilt all the quilt.

That is such a gorgeous quilt!!! For someone who has been fooling with quilts since '95 you would think I wouldn't need to ask this question. I'm a ditcher and crosshatcher. Would you echo each triangular piece using free motion or by manipulating the quilt for each turn of each angle?

I would use a gray thread.

I've seen a lot of two color Hunter Star quilts quilted with an all over design and they looked great. The most impressive was a small diamond crosshatching. I think I would use the bright blue color for thread.

I think if it were mine, I would use the dark color in the light areas, and the light in the dark areas and echo quilt the stars. Hope what I am saying makes sense. Just two echos in each color would be more than enough quilting and would be pretty neat.
