I just "googled" cross in the square quilt pattern... here ya go |
Think of it like 4 - 4 patch units with sashing with a corner stone in the center and you can make it any size you want. Alternate with a simple background square and you have it.

What size do you want it? If you use all 2 1/2 inch strips it will give you if you sew accurate 1/4 inch seams a 10 1/2 unfinished block. Size is set by you by the size of strips or squares you use. If doing only two colors say white and red you can make strip sets of one white and one red and subcut them to make your four patches.

By the way you can also make this block by doing a 9 patch and sashing it with corner stones

The size of the block will depend on the size of quilt you want. This is a very simple Irish Chain made with center sashing and Four 4 patches. With a standard 10" block, the dimension of the quilt will be 72" x 92"

The "Country Lanes" pattern is a 4 page leaflet. I have it. It is a pattern by Kaye England. I'm saving up civil war scraps to make one. Google her or her web page www.KayeEngland.com. The pattern ID# is SS201. Good luck!! The above photo is not the quilt by this name according to what I have.
