Vintage Singer with Round/Circular Presser Foot?
I was browsing in a second hand shop and came across a vintage Singer with a round presser foot. It had an interesting (beautiful actually0 head on it, with lots of metal. I'm curious about what it might have been used for. I'm guessing something industrial. Perhaps it was a specialty machine that just did tacking?
I found this photo on the web and it's pretty close to what I saw. http://images.craigslist.org/00404_a...eJ_600x450.jpg |
Looks sort of like the chainstitch embroidery machine - if I found one of those, it would be coming home with me!

Thanks, Cathy! I've never used, or nor have I seen a chain stitch embroidery machine this old, but that was one of my very uneducated guesses.

Welcome greenwillow - By any chance did you happen to get any numbers from it? It looks like maybe there are a couple of stamped plates on the bed by the pillar.
Janey - Neat people never make the exciting discoveries I do. |
No, I didn't .I may go back and take another look. If I do, I'll get what-ever details I can find.
I'm actually keeping my eyes out for an inexpensive vintage machine I can use for sewing leather purses. If anyone reading this has advice on makes and models, my ears are open. |
I don't know near enough about industrials to recommend anything but there's leather and then there's leather. Are you talking the thinner upholstery and clothing type leather or are you thinking the thick stuff used for saddles, boots, holsters and stuff like that?

Yep, that is on my Short list.... Embroidery machine...

Okay I am thinking a cheniele machine, which could also be an embroidery machine. I think it is a cool looking machine for sure:thumbup:

Sewbeadit, I see you have gotten bit by a vintage bud and you know what you are talking about. Just an ole friend stopping by for a minute to hello and a Happy New Year to all on the Vintage train.
