Hanging pictures - finally!
 

We are finally getting around to hanging pictures in the home we moved into three years ago! The walls are all cinder block covered with drywall, which has been a real deterrent.

Have any of you had success with Command strips? We are trying them out in two locations with two small (ish) pictures.

Some of the pictures are more than 5 lbs. We may just have to hire someone with a good drill and concrete bits to ensure nothing falls off the wall.

Thoughts?

We have a new addition on our trailer. I have always just used straight pins or Bullitan board tacks now hubby says no holes in the wall so also am trying command strips. they are so far holing the clock a wreath and one picture. On the trailer walls I basted quilts with the tacks don't even notice the holes but with cement you have a different problem!

I've used them for various things and they do work. I've used two side by side for heavier items(assuming there is a hanging wire to go over both hooks) and that worked too. Everything has been up for quite a while now.

Command strips are terrific. I think there are ones that can handle 5 lbs. Look them up on google!

I did and found there are some for 5lb, 7 1/2 ibs. didn't read further. I looked for "Command hooks, weight?"

I've used command strips with a lot of success. I have several small pictures and a large acrylic hung with command strips. The acrylic has been hanging with a command strip on wood panelling for a couple years now. One of the secrets to having them work well is to clean the area where you are going to put the strip on the wall thoroughly. We used alcohol on the wood panelling to clean it so the strip would stick well.

No i haven't had luck with command strips! I put up a plate hanger with four plates on one. crashed later to the floor. so no more for me. My son likes these curved things you poke a hole in the drywall and slip the curved metal thing in and then hang what ever. me, i like nails.

I, like you, have had bad luck with those .....not dishes crashing to the floor, but pictures - in the middle of the night! Those curved things are called hurricane hooks and the are great for drywall...don't have to find the joist to hang something up!

i have used command hooks all the time. they have the one that hang heavier pictures and they really work

Thanks all! We have one up above the piano and one in the hallway. We cleaned the wall with rubbing alcohol. I think i will go pick some more up. I have googled and see that they have strips as well as hooks that might work for some of our heavier pieces.

I am sorry about your negative experience nativetexan! I think we are going to 'risk' it!

You might want to leave them over night after cleaning and putting them on the wall. They seem to adhere better for me.
