I was surprised to find a take up lever on the back of the New Home. Oh well, as long as it works.

So there is nothing on the front (side facing you when sewing)?? Got a pic?

Umm- am I missing something? Isn't that a normal place for them to be? (at least on vintage machines)

BTW -that New Home is a badged machine made by Free. Right before New Home was bought out, they produced a rotary machine that is a Singer 15 clone. Their earlier rotary machine is quite different (and hard to find). The badged ones made by Free are very common, and in several different models.

leonf, I have a Free Westinghouse ALB that's more or less the same machine, except it has the "turtle" motor. Not sure if you're aware, they were made to take a shorter CC1221 needle, but you should be able to adjust the needlebar to take 15x1 needles. Neat machines, I don't know if they were all aluminum, but mine is, only weighs about 16 pounds, pretty impressive for that era.

Speaking if iding, where's the bobbin winder on that one?

leonf, on that machine with the dull bronze finish, is the bobbin winder on the motor shaft itself? I've seen some old Domestics like that, I think that arm on the back swings out to be the thread guide for the winder, and disengages the motor from the handwheel at the same time.
