King size LC- still having trouble with the math!
 

Hi everyone,
Well I made 100 blocks. Each one is 12 inches so the finished size is 11.5
So the finished size will be 115 x 115
Since a King is 76X80 will it be too big? We want it nice and big but I'm thinking
the length may be too long.
I made it with Moda Nest and absolutely love the blocks!!!

Any suggestions?

Truthfully, it sort of depends on your bed and how long you like your quilt to hang.

I have a Queen size bed. And, The ideal length and width that I found is my perfect size. 89 x 100. I have made them a bit smaller. But, I like that size the very best.

My matteress depth is 13" (pillowtop) I have about 11" overhang on each side. And 12 1/2 on the bottom. The quilt is flush at the top of the bed with the headboard. (You could also take your quilt over your pillows instead of under like I do mine.)

And, from mattress to floor is 30 1/2".

I like these dimensions because it is an affordable quilt to make in both fabrics, backing fabric and sending out to be quilted. And, bonus, it fits in my washing machine and dryer easily.

So, I guess go measure your favorite quilt on your bed and see how it differs in measurements. If it's close, leave it alone. If not, time to figure out how to make it just a bit smaller. Maybe remove one row from bottom and side. Or one row all around and just add a plain fabric border to bring it to correct size.

Our king sized bed is high. I prefer 120" X 120".

I think it will be a great size to use on your bed.

I have an 18" mattress with a 4" foam topper. I have a double bed and a dust ruffle. I make my quiltss large, almost a queen size. I haven't measured them. I spread the quilt to top of bed and make big pillow covers to hide the pillows.

I find 120" to be a good size for my king bed. That way when DH steals most of it, I'm still covered.

As I remember, the king sized quilt I made a year or so ago, finished about 120" and it's an excellent size. Not a bit too big as far as I'm concerned.

The top, flat surface of a king is 76x80. If you want to be covered by the quilt you absolutely want it bigger.

As others have pointed out, the best size for you depends on several factors. Is your mattress a pillowtop? How much overhang do you want it to have?

My king quilt is 118" x 118" and it's almost too small, but that was about the largest my longarmer could handle.

The minimum king I make is 120 x 120. But our bed is high with a thick mattress.
