Sorting/Organizing fabric for block assembly
 

I'm making this quilt by Monique Dillard: https://shop.mybluprint.com/quilting...ilt-kit/504469, (with some of the fabrics switched out.) There will be twenty blocks, each block having 10 pieces. I have 20 different fabrics, each fabric cut into 10 pieces. So there's 200 pieces that can be sorted by color, or by shape.

What's the best way to organize for block assembly, so as to ensure no two pieces of the same fabric (or same fabric color) are touching within a block? I'm a wee bit OCD and can't do random.

There must be a logical way!

I would draw out a diagram of the quilt for fabric placement. then color them all in. then gather your fabrics for each block and the colors you wanted for them. good luck!!

When I am making a quilt with lots of pieces and blocks-I cut out each block and put those pieces to each block on a paper plate. I then stack the paper plates up with a cut out block on each plate then when I get a few minutes free I just grab the pieces off one plate and make a block. Hope this is clear to you but this method works for me. BTW-I think that pattern is really pretty so I am anxious to see your progress and please share pictures if you can.

I like that idea, using paper plates. Then I can spread them out, if necessary, before sewing each block together.

I was going to send a pic of my little fabric piles, but can't manage to attach a photo. Maybe I'll have better luck when I can show a pic of the quilt top!

Quite the coincidence as I just finished a quilt today using all of those same fabrics.. Mine is a different craftsy/bluprint pattern but still a scrappy. I simply paired up light/dark and placed them randomly which worked great because all of the fabrics in this collection really work well together!

I would look at using only 10 fabrics to make half the blocks needed, then the remaining 10 fabrics for the other blocks. But in the end, those same pieces that meet create another element in the colour-way of the quilt.

Love the pattern. Even though the colors are not touching in the individual block, will they at some point in the final quilt arrangement? I don't know how they will all play out. Could be a great challenge!

I like to use zip lock bags. I most always use gallon size for this purpose. I have lightweight cardeboards that can be inserted in the bags (if necessary. I store the needed fabrics in the bags. If appropriate, when the pieces are cut, I use bits of removable tape to fasten them to the cardboard for viewing.
