Half Square Triangles
Got this in an email today and found it interesting. I've only looked at the 4 at a time and the 8 at a time so far but wanted to share.

I usually do the 8 st a time technique. It works for me.
|
I will do 8 or sometimes even more if necessary depending on the project. If I am doing 12 full blocks I will cut accordingly and lay out the blocks, draw the lines and cut accordingly after all my stitching is completed. I am not crazy about standing on my feet to square things up so I now sit and do that task. I do like however being able to have all my pieces available so I can see what all my blocks are going to look like. This is a good tutorial on hst's however.

Doing the 8 at a time works for me and saves time.

The formula should be written:
(finished size of HST unit + 7/8 ) multiplied by 2 Example: finished size to be 3 inches (3 + 7/8) * 2 = 7-3/4 Calculators have an "order of operations" - so without the parantheses, this is what you would get: 3 + 7/8 * 2 = 5-1/4 |
that's waaaaaaaaaaay too many extra steps for me.
scissors? no way. make it wrong and then fix it? not for me. faster to make them the old fashioned way. |
I think the scissors on the illustration were only there to show "where to cut" -
|
This method has been around for a while and, as was mentioned, goes by different names. I use it anytime I need or want many of the same HSTs. I recently did a mini skill builder tutorial at my guild on the many ways HSTs can be made.

So many great ways! Thank you for sharing that link, ctack2. :o
