Vqw—3/21-23/2025

Welcome to our March virtual quilting weekend. I am on a guild quilt retreat so have been quilting all days. So far today I made 96 flying geese for the first clue of a mystery quilt. Then I made hourglass units for a panel border. So one panel made along with the binding for it. Now I might do a little handwork.

so what are you all working on this weekend? Next VQW will be April 18-20, 2025

I'm ready for this VQW. I do have a few projects to work on.

I just took a chance the thread would be up and ready and here we are. I have a quilt named Star Trails to finish. and some Boom Blocks to make this weekend. When I get tired of machine work, I have one final side of hand stitch of a binding to complete along with the labels for two quilts. Just a collection of little odds and ends that will lead to a an "ahhh" by Sunday. evening.

Enjoy your retreat, Raggiemom. My quilting group has one the first weekend of April. I love having dedicated time to plunge in and accomplish much with friends.

Enjoy your retreat, and sorry for the loss of your furry friend/last week. I've lived with cats all my life, my last one passed the last year in the old house. The little dogs do their best but I miss the cat energy. Have to admit, as much as I miss the cats I don't miss the cat box.

I have been working on organizing my fabric and cleaning up the sewing area. I found a top that I thought I finished I still needed to put on the borders. Have the last one of those to put on today. For those that might remember, it is my bright/garish top of Hawaiian fabrics, many of which are poly blends and slippery and the threads fray all over the place. I decided to add a small zig zag of stabilizing stitches to the border seam and pulled up my vintage machine (oof, it was always that heavy but I am not so used to moving it around) to do the zig zag instead of going back and changing feet and such with the other machine. So good news is that I could see to thread it much better! Still have no real depth perception which doesn't help but at least I can see (more or less) the eye of the needle.

The latest round of purging fabrics is almost over, I still have more to purge but the momentum is slipping. What I've organized is much easier to work with/find stuff but it is time to take the exploded closet and put the fabric back in... so that's my big plan for the weekend. Putting what totes I can back in the closet and stack up the unsorted.

And then, almost a year ago just as my eyesight was tanking, I bought a new-to-me long arm. Still need to set it up, is not all that difficult really but the hubby is not mechanically gifted and I couldn't see. The table is super heavy, all welded together and has the hydraulic lifts, so mostly it's a matter of unwrapping the protective batting and tape used for packing, screwing in supports and such. I have the box of parts (screws and such mostly) upstairs where I have to look at it and think I'm sufficiently ready to take it on.

I just came across this post but this weekend is booked with Church and family. I see the next weekend is April 18 -20. I will have my quilts ready to work on.

I’m in again! I have at least one quilt top to quilt and bind. And I have my studio cleanup to complete -almost done there. Hubby is back home from a conference and we have some catching up to do so if I get all my list done this weekend I’ll be surprised. One can hope😊

I will be working on my Heart Strings baby quilt for a friend. My goal is to finish it by the end of the month, so this weekend I need to finish piecing it and baste it, at least.

I don’t post much here, this is my accountability for getting it done :)

I am hoping for some good news today. Back in January, I bought a 2019 Handi Quilter Amara, but the previous owner only did ruler work and FMQ so no back handles. They have been on order since the day after we brought my baby home. The LQS contacted me this week, that they were expecting a shipment today. Fingers crossed that my handles are in it!!

But, after quilting a couple of small items from the front, with rulers (yuck!! really hard on my shoulders) and FMQ (well, that was a better experience than I expected) I have decided to load a baby quilt and FMQ it. Worst case scenario, I do a lot of ripping and say many bad words.

That will have to wait until tomorrow. Today is grocery shopping, and our bi-monthly day guild meeting. Wish me luck for tomorrow's adventure!

I will work on my March block a day project from Pat Sloan’s Ilovetomakequilts. I am making them in scrappy yellow and blue. Here is a photo of the first 4 but I have the rest made (30)
This afternoon my friend comes for a couple hours so I will hand quilt if I have time. She wants me to draw the faces on a penguin wall hanging for her first. (She has Familial Essential Tremors and is unable to control the shaking enough now)
Thank you for hosting this fun time for us, even while you are at retreat!

I finally started sewing yesterday. In February, Mom entered the final stages of hospice and passed. I was her primary caregiver. I lost my mojo.
Thursday, I pulled off a large piece of paper to start designing a whole quilt applique. I saw one at a quilt show and wanted to try one. 50" x 30" scene. I searched Google and YT, but nothing like what I am attempting. I had to order some erasers and an electric pencil sharpener! Will try to post pic of sketch.
Yesterday, I cut strips to add the borders to a pixel quilt that has been patiently waiting my attention.
One day at a time...
