White 565 tension assembly
 

Hi, I’m new here.

Just popping in because I recently pulled out an old White 565 sewing machine (serial: 1843) and decided to fix it up for a sewing project. The tension assembly is completely fallen off. I’ve spent some time looking around online on how to fix it, but am unable to find anything. Nor find any identical parts to replace it with, except a check spring. So my questions are does anybody here know how to fix the tension assembly on a white 565? Or how it’s supposed to be assembled? Secondly, are there tension assemblies online that I could replace the broken one with that aren’t exactly the same? Like a “one-size-fits-all” tension assembly.

Welcome to QB. It has been a long time since I have messed with any tension assembly. Is it all one piece that has fallen off? I'm wondering if there is a set screw on the inside of the nose that was lost or just needs to be tightened. Also is the tension release pin still with it?

Perhaps a picture of the machine, assembly and one of the nose opened and a picture of that end.

I have found that only the big red "Reply" button or "Quote" work to give me the paper clip icon to work for adding pictures.

Or simply - Make sure pictures are smaller than 2MB
Click on red "Reply" button
Click on the paper clip icon
Click browse - choose picture/s. (only 5 allowed per post)
Once they show up as being loaded, Scroll over to the right side and click on "Upload"
After the pictures show up as being attached, you can close that window and go back to the screen to finish posting your post.

Some additional notes -
The photos generally need to be reduced to less than 2MB in size. I have heard of people sending an email to themselves as it will ask if you want to reduce the size.

I have an android phone and when I tried to reply on Quilting Board while in mobile view None of the options for adding pictures was available. However, there is an option down at the bottom left of the page that is for Full Site when I tapped on "Full Site" It then looked like the way it looks on my lap top. So it would have the Red Reply and the Go Advanced options.

I'll put my 2¢ in the next post.

It looks like it may be complete and even has the tension release spring. I looked at a couple of videos https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xK86anBrBsc and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=muCDrG9Ii3c but can't quite tell for sure whether it is complete or not. According to the manual there is supposed to have a "check spring arm notch (C)" but I can't quite tell from the scanned model and I don't see it in the videos. I just a little closer at the first video and he describes threading it and it looks like there isn't anything that the thread needs to catch on on other than the actual "U" section of the check spring.

It looks like the set screw is there as indicated by the red arrow. I would try to unscrew that. You will need to put the check spring on the back so that the "U" section is open on top before you put the tension assembly unit in the machine. place the unit in the machine and then tighten the screw. Gently tug on it and see if it comes out again. If so then there may be a missing piece.

As a side note about posting pictures I took a screenshot of the enlarged window for attaching images. Sometimes it takes awhile for them to load but you want to have it show the "Current Attachments" as indicated by the red arrow, before you close that window.

Remember to click on thumbnails to see full size images. I usually right click and open in new tab, as I have a tendency to close that window and then I have to go back and find the post that the picture was from LOL.

I just realized I called it a tension release spring in post #5 and it should be tension release pin.

You are welcome. I didn't know that there was another part that had set screws. I'm glad you got it fixed.

Hello! I also came across an old White machine and I had a lot of trouble with the voltage. I couldn't find an exact part either, but some universal models can sometimes fit. You just have to pay attention to the axis and the direction of the spring. It's not always plug-and-play, but with a little tinkering it can work. If I find a good link or a diagram, I'll share it with you here!
