Help with Fabric Requirements
I found a cute quilt pattern using the potato chip block from Stacey Lee Creations - https://www.stacey-lee.com/2025/06/0...p-quilt-block/ - she provides different sizes and the amount of squares needed for each size which I like. I want to make a twin size quilt and plan on using jelly rolls for my fabrics. Here is where I need the math help, I am not sure how many jelly rolls I would need to make the twin size, if someone could assist me with that I would really appreciate it...thank you :-)

You should be able to get one block from 2 strips. So if you make your quilt in a 5 X 6 layout you will need 60 strips or 1 1/2 jelly rolls
|
it's going to depend a lot on:
which block you choose; how many strips in the roll are dark, and how many are light. if you choose the second block (all random) i think you'd need at least two jelly rolls. if you choose either of the other two my guess would be three rolls. assuming you get 42 usable inches from each strip: 9 pieces per strip 2 strips per block 35 blocks 70 strips |
I just finished a potato chip quilt with my scrap 2.5" strips. They are really easy and cute when finished.

I wish I could tell you how many your will need, but I made mine out of my scrap bin, but have yet to quilt it. Yours will also depend on the amount of drop (amount over the edge) you want on your quilt, and how scrappy you want it to be. Will you want one that goes down to the bed frame or wider that goes almost to the floor? At any rate I would guess 2 jelly rolls would make one to the bed frame.

Here's my thought -
From one 42" strip you should cut 9 - 4 1/2" pieces. You need 2 strips (18) pieces per one block (12" finished) For a twin size you need 5 x 7 blocks (35). Two strips per block comes to 70 strips, That's 2 bundles of 40 strips, and the leftovers can be used for the border |
I did some figuring and I feel that it would take most all of three jelly rolls to make this quilt as described in the directions which one can download. Everyone seems to think it will be 5x7 blocks but the directions one can print call for 6x8 blocks for a twin size. This would be 48 blocks. I may be wrong but if it were me I would allow three jelly rolls. If strips are a full 42 inches it allows for one more piece but if strips are forty that allows for one less when cutting. Hope this makes sense1
