More Kudos for Dunster's Storm At Sea Log Cabin Quilt Pattern!!

Early this year, Dunster very graciously gave me permission to use her Storm at Sea Log Cabin quilt pattern for a log cabin challenge from our LQS. I was thrilled to see my quilt as part of an exhibit of more than 100 log cabin designs in May.

In Ontario, August signals the start of fall fairs. For the last several years (except for Covid) I have entered items into 4 (semi) local fairs and have enjoyed quite a bit of success--except in one area--the OAAS (Ontario Association of Agricultural Societies Quilting Division). For my entry to be eligible, I needed to piece and quilt it myself. Last January, I became the proud owner of a new-to-me Handi Quilter Amara and am finally able to quilt my own quilts!

Okay, that's a lot of background info but believe me, the story needed to be told.

Last weekend, my Storm at Sea won it's category but came second for OAAS--Reserve Grand Champion. This weekend...a different fair, probably a different judge...it won Grand Champion!! It will be going on to the District meeting later this year and will compete against the Grand Champion quilts from a much larger area. I am soooo excited!!

Thank you so much, Dunster!! I wish I could share these ribbons with you!

Ginger, your version of Dunster ‘s pattern is fantastic! The border treatment you used is so clever and really frames and defines the log cabin blocks. You richly deserve every accolade you are receiving. Wonderful job!!

Loisf, thank you. When I submitted the first photo to the LQS for the log cabin challenge, some of the 'powers that be' declared that the storm units--basically all the sashing--were not true log cabin blocks and therefore, my amount of log cabin blocks did not meet the 51+% of blocks that the rules stipulated. I did a lot of inner grumbling but figured out a way to put more log cabins in the borders. The placements were a happy accident after much trial and error and many photos.
